4/2/2003 Many Find Benefit of Wool
By Steve Louden Waukesha Freeman 2003

TOWN OF ASHIPPUN

The owners of Kerry Hills Farm are proud of the benefits of their products, including testimonials that the wool quilts and comforters have eased their pain. "Our underquilts and our comforters - people are finding temporary relief from pain with them," McCourt said "They're also able to sleep well."

Each product is made to meet the customer's specific needs. "Due to the fact that we're helping people with pain - the underquilts and the comforters and even the pillows are helping in different areas - we've found that it's better to make them custom made," McCourt said. "Because what makes you get relief isn't necessarily what would get me relief."

Thickness of the individual products depends on the individuals’ pain, McCourt said. A heavy comforter; she added, only adds to the person's pain. The town of Ashippun woman recalled one special order she made for a Pewaukee man. "I had one gentleman call me. He had back surgery and he hadn't slept in a bed for 6 years. He slept in a recliner," McCourt said. "He said, 'Could you make me one (an underquilt) to fit inside my recliner?' So I made him one." Eventually the man moved the underquilt from his recliner to his bed "After six years, he's sleeping back in bed. He doesn't have the pain." she said. Several testimonials customers have emailed McCourt are collected in one volume at the shop "Doctors are starting to refer patients with fibromyalgia to our products,'' McCourt said "My husband, Arthur, is out three days a week visiting and talking with the doctors about our products.

Fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by chronic pain in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding joints, fatigue and tenderness at specific sites in the body. Arthur McCourt, a retired pharmacist, and his partners started Tobin Drug Stores. After selling off that venture, the group created the Drug Emporium chain of stores.
